Part 2:  The Eagles Chapter 6/Page 1

Departure

Back in her eyrie, Remera informed Sabino of her failure. She also her of the plans she had made, to join the other Eagles in search of new lands. Of Canana, nothing was heard or seen. She searched the same ground over and over, always looking for some clue that would give her some indication of his fate, always with no success.
In the weeks that followed, as winter turned to spring. Remera employed all the tricks and cunning she had learned from her mate Cylor.  Great risks she now took in the hunt, taking sheep and goat from open land. She was determined to build up her and her remaining offspring’s strength, ready for the hard flight before them.

As spring slowly dissolved into summer, Remera felt the time was near to depart. One evening, Remera and Sabino were resting after an exhaustive flight, when they spotted another Great

 Eagle heading for their eyrie.
As they watched, the newcomer swooped down and perched just outside the boundary of the nest. "I am Vanor", he announced. "I am a messenger of Gwyl `Lord of Eagles. The Eagles have found a new home. It is a land of plenty, full of game and beauty. Most important, it is free of man. This new home", he continued. "Is on an island, a great distance from here. It would take them a moon and more before they could reach there. Are you and your remaining prepared to depart?
Remera looked to Vanor then to Sabino. Sabino was ready the glint in her eyes and the sheer aroma of expectation was easily discernible. Returning to Vanor she replied, "we are ready, we can leave straight away".
"That is good", returned Vanor. "For it is my task to gather all the remaining great Eagles throughout the lands inhabited by man. It is a great undertaking, for the Eagles are scattered far and wide over this earth. So well hidden is this island that without me to guide them, they would find it impossible to locate.
If you are to follow me, then let us fly! As he finished saying this, with almost incredible precision, all three birds opened their wings and leapt from the eyrie.
That day, the inhabitants of the valley saw three great Eagles flying over the mountains and away from the valley. Shortly before they reached the end of the mountain range, one of the Eagles turned around and headed straight for the very heart of the Guadalquivir.
There it circled, screeching to the heavens above. Suddenly it hurled itself to the earth. As it plunged, it released a shriek that echoed off the mountains and through the valley. Then it rose back to the sky, returning to its companions.

In the valley, the people crossed themselves, fearing what new devilry these demons were planning. They were not to know that Remera had returned to say goodbye to her ancestral home, and they could never understand that Remera was also saying goodbye for all the Eagles. A final farewell to the Guadalquivir.
